Vote Ellen Veterinary Technician Hero

All of us here at NOVA Cat Clinic are very proud that one of our very own has been nominated for the American Humane Association’s Veterinary Technician Hero award!

Ellen Carozza, LVT has tirelessly fought for better veterinary care for cats. Thought her years at NOVA CAT she has always had an enormous influence on our patient care here at the clinic. She was instrumental in stopping the practice of declawing at our facility and is also our feline advocate for our Cat Friendly Practice. In this capacity, she has trained our assistants to use respectful handling of our patients. She also has worked to insure that all patients are pain free before, during and after procedure.

Because of Ellen’s efforts with pediatrics, we now have a non-profit fund to help orphaned kittens. To learn more about our foundation, click here.

On top of our own non-profit, Ellen volunteers her time with our local animal shelters and numerous rescue groups with their complicated neonate and pediatric cases and is always willing to lend a hand in any specialized care that is needed that their groups are unable to provide or have experience with. Her motto with neonates has always been “Every life deserves a chance” and she is willing to go the extra mile to make it happen.  In the past few years, NOVA Cat Clinic has become the ‘go to’ place for many complicated pediatric cases and we have had the pleasure of assisting dozens of complicated cases that would not have received the care elsewhere due to the lack of education with neonates and pediatrics.

Ellen has also been instrumental in helping other technicians in the veterinary field become Feline-Friendly. She has spoken at various animal hospitals in the Northern Virginia area and has also lectured at veterinary meetings about respectful handling and complicated pediatrics. Ellen has been very active in Virginia organized veterinary medicine. She is a past Vice-President of the Virginia Association of Licensed Veterinary Technician (VALVT), and is currently President-elect. Ellen has been a force for change on the national level as well for advocating and being on the committee in creating a specialty in feline medicine for veterinary technicians. We request your support in helping Ellen become a Veterinary Technician Hero. You can vote daily.
