Doctors
Marcus G Brown, DVM
Dr. Brown knew that he wanted to become a veterinarian at age 5. He was fortunate to be able to work with his father, a veterinarian and became passionate about helping animals.
​
Dr. Brown is the founder of NOVA Cat Clinic and he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1986 from the University of Illinois. Initially Dr. Brown worked at several mixed practices and an equine practice before finding his true passion was in the care and treatment of feline patients. Prior to opening NOVA Cat Clinic, he co-founded the Capital Cat Clinic. He was on the task force for the establishment of the Cat-Friendly Practices. The goal is for our feline friends to have the same level of veterinary care as their canine counterparts. Dr. Brown has committed himself to see this become a reality.

He is an active supporter in local, state and national feline organizations. Dr. Brown is the President of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. He was one of the authors of new wellness guidelines for feline practitioners. Dr. Brown is the AAFP delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates. He is the medical director for Alley Cat Allies.
Dr. Brown lives locally in Arlington with his cat Bootie. In his free time, Dr. Brown enjoys traveling, reading, and running. He has completed numerous marathons and triathlons over the past couple of years.
Erica R. Barron, DVM, CVA
Dr. Barron originally hails from Cleveland, Ohio. She is a Buckeye through and through attending The Ohio State University for both undergraduate and veterinary school.
After vet school, Dr. Barron witnessed how acupuncture could help a variety of medical concerns, ranging from arthritis to pain management, to kidney disease. It also enhanced the quality of life for longer periods of time for many patients. With a dedication to helping pets in any way possible, she attended the Chi Institute in Florida for her acupuncture certification.
Dr. Barron truly enjoys helping animals and feels the best possible care comes from integrating Eastern and Western medicines. She is very active in the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine, serving as a member of the board for the past two years and is a participant in writing and changing the National Boards examination process.

In her free time, Dr. Barron enjoys rooting for the Buckeyes with her husband Matt and traveling. Her non-human companions include two cats, Cosmo and Cleopatra, and a box turtle named Magellan.
Jessica Wootton, DVM
Dr. Wootton is originally from Blackstone, VA. She grew up working on a beef farm and in the family restaurant. She attended Hollins University, George Mason University, and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA.
Dr. Wootton worked as a veterinary assistant at two feline-exclusive hospitals (including Capital Cat Clinic!) prior to attending veterinary school.
Her professional interests include geriatric medicine and working with patients with challenging demeanors.
When she’s not working, she enjoys travel, cooking, reading, sports (especially Hokie football), and trying new restaurants with friends. Dr. Wootton lives in Arlington with a spirited tortie named Lucy.
Shannon Heath, DVM
Dr. Heath was raised in Wyoming. She was riding a horse and helping care for the animals practically before she could walk. She always wanted to be a veterinarian. Her ideal practice would be horses and cats. She has met most of the ideal with an all feline practice. Her interests are dentistry and preventative medicine.
Dr. Heath attended the University of Wyoming and Colorado State University. She went on to practice in multiple areas; large animal, companion animal, shelters, food inspection, and even some emergency. These practices were Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington.

In her free time, Dr. Heath spends time with her family; two daughters, a high school junior and a UVA graduate, her mother, and their cats. She is also actively involved in the Gainesville Haymarket Rotary Club and is the club’s current President.
Tyler Anderson, DVM
Dr. Anderson was born in San Diego, CA but he has lived in Arlington, VA since attending Yorktown High School. He wanted to be a veterinarian at an early age and worked at McLean Animal Hospital as a kennel assistant to gain experience in the field. His interests include ultrasound, cardiology, and rehabilitation.

Dr. Anderson attended Marist College and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. He came back to practice at McLean Animal Hospital upon graduation. He developed a special interest in imaging and now practices as a traveling sonographer for MiVU. Dr. Anderson works here at NOVA Cat Clinic only on Saturdays.

Dr. Anderson continues to live in Arlington with his four pets, a labrador/boxer mix named Leo, a golden retriever named Ryder, and his cats Mr. Boo and Charlie. During his free time, Dr. Anderson enjoys hiking with his dogs, cooking, and snowboarding.

Kristina Bazemore, DVM
Dr. Bazemore is a native of Washington, DC. She attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bazemore started out as a veterinary technician assistant in both a small animal and feline-only practice before becoming a veterinarian.
She has worked in feline-only practices since graduating from vet school in 2005. Dr. Bazemore’s areas of passion include senior/geriatric care, nutrition, preventive care, behavior issues, and dental care. Dr. Bazemore grew up having all types of animals as pets and loved them all. She knew in junior high school that she wanted to turn her interests in and love for animals into a career. It wasn’t until veterinary school while working a summer job at a feline-only practice that Dr. Bazemore discovered she only wanted to practice feline medicine.
Dr. Bazemore was adopted by one loveable, sassy cat named TarJay at her previous practice. She also has a tank of misfit fish consisting of one Arowana and four blood parrotfish. When Dr. Bazemore is not working, she enjoys singing, bicycle riding, roller skating and spending time with family and friends.
