So your cat has just had surgery and stitches have been put in place. Does your cat need a “cone of shame”?
Here at NOVA Cat Clinic, we use sutures that are under the skin and in the skin. Most of our surgeries do no need sutures. We will sometimes place sutures or staples if the incision line is long.
As a general rule, we try not to use the cone. Grooming is very important to cats and we do not like to interfere with that process if possible. Sometime have people use lotions that are bad tasting. This can help keep your cat’s teeth away from the stitches.
If you feel more comfortable with a cone, we will provide one. The following is a funny video of Simon’s cat getting use to the “cone of shame”.
