A year as passed since we last discussed microchipping your cat. I wrote about the experience I had with my unmicrohipped cat. Click here to learn more about my experience.
In honor of this month, NOVA Cat Clinic will offer a discount of $15 if you mention this post. This will be valid until May 31, 2015.
Life has funny ways of taking things out of your control. 15% of cat owners have lost their cat. Microchipping increases the chances of being reunited with your cat. Only 2% of cats in shelters that are not microchipped are reunited with their families. When cats are microchipped the rate goes up to 38%.
At NOVA Cat Clinic, we scan all cats. We have had the good fortune of retuning cats with their families. We also have stories of cats from other places have been reunited with their families. We have one woman whose cat was with another family for a year until their veterinarian scanned him during a physical exam.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) support microchips to help reunite families. The procedure is simple and can be done while the cat is awake. During neutering or dental cleaning is an easy opportunity to have the microchip implanted.
Microchipping is required in many countries and the state of Hawaii. If your plans include travel or living in those countries, microchipping will make the process much easier.
We register your cat with your current address. The microchip can be tracked to NOVA Cat Clinic. Many people forget to update their addresses when they move. We always remind clients when their cats receive their annual examination
